I am a Melbourne based artist working in drawing and sculpture. My current project is an exploration of the materials bone, sap and pewter founded on my autobiographical memories of a country childhood. These organic, mineral and metal materials were further augmented with the domestically accessible materials of wax, jamsetta, beef fat and sugar, which were readily available during Melbourne’s Covoid 19 Lockdown period. My inability to access either studio or workshop facilities resulted in a plethora of exploratory processing techniques that were achievable in a home environment. An alchemical union was forged between my outlier practice and the use of primitive materials resulting in a collection of talisman objects, visual notations, and material expulsions. The germination of my ideas and the burgeoning body of work was fostered amidst the soundtrack issuing from my collection of battered 1970’s vinyl LP’s, which were played on constant rotation in my bedroom studio.
